ReNEW (Regional Network for Empowering Women) is a Community Interest Company (CIC), founded with the aim of improving the lives of women impacted by cultures of abuse and disempowerment. ReNEW’s name comes from the idea of freedom from trauma and adversity, with the phoenix as a recognised symbol of renewal, rebirth, and healing, rising from the ashes towards power and prosperity.
To be clear, ReNEW views a woman as any individual who chooses to identify as such. To some extent, cultures of abuse and disempowerment are a universal experience for women from all walks of life. In this sense, issues of female disempowerment are not just for the attention of women; this is everybody’s business.
Due to societal inequalities, traumatic, abusive, and discriminatory experiences; and the intersection between gender and other protected characteristics such as race and class; such cultures are experienced more acutely by some women, preventing them from living happy, healthy lives, and from reaching their full potential. ReNEW acknowledges and aims to support women across the full spectrum of human experience; aiming to address inequalities through targeting intervention efforts predominantly to empower those women most impacted by such experiences.
Maintaining a life free from abuse is not something women should have to ask for, or aim towards, but should be a given. Unfortunately, this is not the case in the society that we live in. ReNEW’s aim is to support women to reach their full potential, and become the authors of their own lives, free from the legacy of trauma and/or cultures of abuse, discrimination and disempowerment.
